Thiruchendur

Lord Murugan temple
Thiruchendur is considered as one of the Arupadaiveedu (six abodes) of Lord Murugan. It is situated in Tuticorin district, Tamil Nadu. It is 60kms from Tirunelveli. Puranas tells that Lord Murugan killed Surabadman, a demon in this place. Skanda Sashti is celebrated in remembrance of this. For Skanda sashti there are hundreds of thousands of people comes here. Another important place around Tirunelveli is the Navathirupathi vishnu temples. It is one among 108 Divya Desam. Unfortunately we could not make it to Navathirupathi due to time constraints.

Lets see our journey: As this Murugan temple has significant importance we decided to visit this temple even though most of us had been already. To go there, there is a train available from Chennai <-> Thirunchendur which is a direct train. But actually we did not go by that train. We went in Ananthapuri Express ( the train running from Chennai, Egmore to Trivandrum) and got down in Tirunelveli around 7:10 AM. It is almost 12 hrs journey.  Then we refreshed there and had our delicious breakfast :) and started our yatra around 9:30AM.

The climate was very chill that really helped us to travel and also in between drizzling. It was really good to go in that climate. Infact we didnt feel the distance 60kms.

We passed a placed called Srivaikundam which is about 25kms from Tirunelveli. Navathirupathi temple starts from here only. The road side was completely greenary could see paddy fields and also plantain on both sides of the roads.

nothing but a paddy land.

Rain had badly affected southern part of Tamil nadu in the month of December, Tiruchendur was also in that list. In some places there was no sign for paddy land as it was completely flooded. And also plantains too. After 60mins drive we reached the holy Murugan temple Thiruchendur.

As it was not a special day we were able to get inside the temple quickly. otherwise we will have to wait for long time in the queue. Especially during skandashasti it is very much difficult to get inside we have to wait for hours and hours to go inside the temple.

We all really had very good dharshan and also we had enough time to stand and pray GOD. otherwise they will not allow you to stand and pray not more than a min. It was really a blessed day for all of us. Again we went to Tirunelveli as we booked our return from there to Chennai, we did not miss to buy IRUTTUKADAI halwa :) . Overall it was a blessed trip and we had good time.
